Japan eases visa rules for Indians

Indians will find it much easier to apply for a visa to Japan from January 1, with the country announcing on Tuesday simplified procedures for Indian travellers.

Applicants will no longer have to submit their employment certificate and letters of explanation for multiple-entry visas. The number of documents required has been brought down to three, according to a statement from the Japanese embassy here.

If you have travelled to Japan twice in one year, the list of documents comes down further, to just your passport and the visa application form. In a statement, Tokyo said, “The relaxations are expected to help further development of people-to-people exchanges between Japan and India by enhancing convenience for Indian tourists and businesspersons as well as repeat visitors.”

The relaxations follow come on the back of repeated requests by Indian businesses as well as general improvement in bilateral relations.
