The purpose of travel is to begin or resume a valid program of study in the United States within 60 days, and there are no regular visa appointments available at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in India. Most student visa appointment slots are made available during June and July for program start dates in the Fall, with a smaller number of appointments available in November and December for program start dates in January. Outside of these two student visa processing windows, appointment slots are very limited, and applicants may not be able to schedule an appointment for an off-cycle program start date. Prospective students unable to schedule an appointment before their start date should consult with their university and consider deferred enrollment for the following semester before requesting an emergency appointment. Given limited availability, emergency appointment requests for students will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Emergency appointments are not available to applicants who have been refused a student visa in the past year.
